Just days after playwright Arthur Miller died at the age of 89, it was announced that Anthony LaPaglia, Scarlett Johansson and Frances McDormand will star in a Barry Levinson-directed film version of Miller's classic tale of forbidden desire and betrayal A View From the Bridge.
LaPaglia helped usher in a Miller revival on Broadway with his powerful, Tony Award winning performance as a morally and emotionally confused Brooklyn longshoreman in the 1997 Roundabout Theatre Company staging of the play. Allison Janney and Brittany Murphy backed him up in that production.
According to Variety, LaPaglia gained permission from Miller to make a new film of the drama. An earlier movie version was directed by Sidney Lumet in 1961. Rob Fried will produce the new venture.
"We will keep it in its original period and shoot it in Red Hook, Brooklyn, which still looks remarkably the same as it did in the 1950s," Fried told Variety.
Australian Hollywood star, Anthony LaPaglia, is in discussion with Sydney FC to become a part-owner of the fledgling club.
